Our Story

Saturday, November 16, 2013 marked an important milestone for a growing Canadian non-profit organization, Redleaf Cultural Integration (referred to as RCI below).

RCI was founded in Burlington, Ontario. To introduce its mission to the community, the organization hosted a “test run” fundraiser—a Badminton Fun Night at Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church in Burlington. The goal was to raise awareness and bring people together around its cause. RCI is dedicated to supporting newcomers to Canada as they adjust to life in a new country and become more engaged in their communities. The organization aims to offer a variety of programs and events in the areas of social connection, health, recreation, and education.

During a brief interview with the founder, Lily Hudson, I learned about the inspiration behind the organization. Lily shared a personal experience about someone she knew who faced significant challenges adapting to life in Canada. This individual struggled with language barriers, limited social connections, and difficulty finding employment. Over time, the sense of isolation and lack of support became overwhelming, and she sadly passed away, leaving behind her family.

This experience deeply impacted Lily and reinforced her belief that strong social connections and a sense of belonging are essential for everyone. She founded RCI with the hope of creating a supportive community where newcomers can find encouragement, build relationships, and access resources.
Lily believes that RCI can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation by providing meaningful opportunities for connection and growth. Through its programs and initiatives, RCI aims to empower individuals as they pursue their goals—because when people come together, great things can happen.

Better Together Because We All Belong

Message from Paul Sharman

Burlington and Region of Halton Councillor – Ward 5

"Moving homes is always a significant and demanding change for everyone, but when that move includes leaving your home country for another where the culture and language are different, the challenges become much greater. Redleaf Culture Integration offers a wonderful opportunity for newcomers to Burlington and Canada to get involved with important activities, make new friends, develop links to other members of the community and organizations who will help them in their new life. I am truly inspired by the foresight and leadership provided by RCI founder, Lily Hudson. I wish Lily and everyone who becomes involved with RCI a wonderful and successful future."
